I am 16 days into “31 Days of Belonging”, and some thoughts are beginning to crystallize in my thinking:
* Sometimes our belonging is a FACTUAL issue: we belong to our families, we belong to God.
* but sometimes our experience of feeling that we belong does not follow from the fact: e.g. I didn’t feel I belonged at High School, I have lived in the same place for 9 years but am experiencing a new feeling of belonging since my daughter started public school, the many comments on yesterdays’ post about people who belong to the church but don’t feel a sense of “fit”.
This makes me think: how is it that we sometimes “belong” but don’t feel we “belong”? And what should we do about it?
My wise friend Kate, who has a particular interest in how believers care for their souls, sent me this link about how we express our desire for relationship and belonging through social media. I think it is excellent food for thought, and I’d love to hear your thoughts:
